Why we prefer whitening at home
We prefer whitening at home instead of at our practice. Whitening at home provides better and longer-lasting results, as you can perform the treatment several days in a row. The colour change will be established gradually which means results last longer and your teeth will be at least four shades lighter. Moreover, whitening at home is a lot cheaper than treatment at our practice.
Benefits of whitening the teeth at home
What does whitening at home entail?
After an initial consultation, we will prepare a custom bleaching tray. You will receive clear instructions and a safe whitening gel to use at home. This gradual treatment minimises the risk of sensitivity. And if you do happen to experience any symptoms, we will help you immediately.
Throughout the process, you will be guided by your dentist. Naturally, we only work with safe and certified whitening products. When we make your whitening tray, we will check whether your gums are healthy enough for the treatment.
There are a few important reasons for this. Whitening kits bought online often carry risks: the trays usually do not fit properly, the hydrogen peroxide levels in the gels are far too high and any gum problems go unnoticed. This can lead to pain, irritation and permanent damage. Whitening your teeth under the supervision of your dentist ensures a safe, responsible treatment.
What causes tooth discolouration?
Tooth discolouration often occurs gradually. Drinking coffee, tea or wine, or smoking and certain medications play a role. The quality of your saliva and the state of your oral health also have an impact. By whitening with a professional home treatment kit, we can restore the brightness of your smile without damaging healthy dental tissue.
Please note that crowns, bridges and fillings will not change colour during this treatment. We will take this into account when drawing up your treatment plan.
Costs of whitening treatment

Frequently asked questions
Is whitening treatment suitable for everyone?
Anyone over 18 years old is eligible. Whitening is usually possible after orthodontic treatment, even when you have a fixed retainer. Whitening is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Can fillings, crowns or veneers also be whitened?
No, this is not possible. However, your dentist can look for an alternative solution to achieve your desired results.
Is whitening at home really safe?
Yes. Our whitening gel is designed for safe use and you will be given clear instructions. We only work with materials of which the efficacy and safety have been scientifically proven.
Is whitening painful?
This treatment is painless in 99% of cases. Some people experience temporary sensitivity, which usually subsides within 24 hours.
Can I eat and drink everything?
During this treatment, we do not recommend consuming highly coloured or dyed products. Think of, for instance, red wine, coffee or curries. After this treatment, these foods and drinks will affect the longevity of the results.
How long will the results remain visible?
On average, your results will be visible for 1.5 to 2 years. Smoking and consuming coloured foods and drinks (coffee, red wine or curry) can reduce the effect. Proper oral hygiene helps maintain the results.
Is whitening covered by my health insurance?
In most cases, your health insurance will not cover this treatment. Do you have supplementary dental insurance? Then it pays to check with your health insurer.
Your oral health is our main focus. We believe in treatments that not only contribute aesthetically, but also to your overall (oral) health.
Want to schedule a treatment or need personal advice?
Your oral health is our top priority. We believe in treatments that not only enhance your appearance but also support your overall (oral) health.
