Advantages of CEREC

What is CEREC?
At Tandartspraktijk Slotervaart, we believe in modern, efficient and patient-friendly dentistry. CEREC (Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics) is part of this. CEREC is an advanced digital system that allows us to design, mill and directly place ceramic restorations at our practice. Think of, for instance, crowns, inlays, onlays, veneers and bridges. All fully customised.
CEREC is a suitable solution for damaged or worn teeth, cavities, to replace old amalgam or composite fillings and as a restoration method after root canal treatment. One of the biggest advantages is that we can help you in just one day. We will immediately place a permanent solution, meaning you can benefit from a perfectly fitting restoration right away.
What does CEREC treatment look like?
With CEREC, the dentist makes an accurate 3D scan of your tooth. Below, you can read exactly how a crown is placed using this technology.
| Step | Part | Explanation |
| 1 | Preparing the tooth | The dentist prepares the tooth by grinding it into the right shape. In case of a missing molar, the surrounding teeth are ground down to support a bridge. |
| 2 | 3D scan of your teeth | Using an intra-oral scanner, we will make an accurate digital scan of your mouth. This scan replaces the traditional impression and instantly provides a 3D model. This means we will not have to make a traditional mould using putty. |
| 3 | Design and colour determination | Together with the dentist, you will determine the colour of the ceramic to match your natural teeth. Based on the 3D scan, the crown or inlay is designed digitally. |
| 4 | Milling the crown | The digital design information is sent to a computer-controlled milling machine. In approximately 15 minutes, the crown (or other replacement part) is accurately milled out of a block of ceramic. |
| 5 | Placement of the crown | After polishing, the crown is placed and fixed directly in your mouth. You will leave our practice with a fully restored tooth as well as a radiant smile. |
