Dental surgery at Tandartspraktijk Slotervaart
Holistic dentistry and surgery
We combine modern surgical techniques with holistic dentistry. This means that, when treatment is not an emergency, we will provide you with advice on supplementation and nutrition that will aid recovery.
Think of, for instance, nutrients such as vitamin C, vitamin D3 and zinc which contribute to a healthy immune system, speedy wound healing and reduced risk of complications. These all ensure the body gets the right support from within to allow for enhanced recovery after surgery.
Our specialists
At Tandartspraktijk Slotervaart, we have experienced dentists with a specialisation in surgery in-house. They combine their expertise with a broader, more holistic approach to health. A simple extraction (pulling a tooth) can generally be performed by a dentist. Complex surgical treatments are performed by our in-house implantologist or periodontist.
Surgical treatments
We offer various treatments within oral surgery, always focusing on both your oral and overall health:
| Treatment | Explanation |
| The removal of wisdom teeth | Wisdom teeth are often removed when they grow crooked, are inflamed or have too little space. Under local anaesthesia, the wisdom tooth is removed in a controlled manner. Depending on its position, this may take a little more time. Proper aftercare and attention to nutrition promote a speedy recovery. |
| Extraction of other teeth | If a tooth is severely damaged or causes inflammation, extraction may be necessary. Under anaesthesia, the dentist will carefully remove the element. This procedure is usually short and without complications. |
| Root fragment removal | A root tip that is not removed properly can cause problems. Our dentist usually removes such fragments under local anaesthesia with a small procedure. This treatment takes 10 to 15 minutes and involves expert stitches. Proper wound healing is key, in which lifestyle and nutrition can also play a role. |
| Full mouth extractions | A full mouth extraction involves removing all teeth and/or molars from one or both jaws, usually in preparation for dentures. This is done under local anaesthesia. Wound healing requires care and attention and is aided by proper nutrition and supplements. |
Ozone therapy
Ozone therapy is a valuable addition to our surgical treatments. Ozone, a natural gas consisting of three oxygen atoms (O₃), is known for its powerful antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal properties. In dentistry, ozone therapy is used to fight infections, speed up wound healing and increase patient comfort.
During surgical procedures, such as tooth extractions or implant placement, ozone therapy can be used to disinfect the treated area. This reduces the risk of postoperative infections and promotes healing. In addition, ozone therapy contributes to improved blood flow and stimulates tissue regeneration. This therapy is safe when used correctly and provides natural support throughout the recovery process.

Aftercare
After your treatment, you will receive detailed instructions for enhanced healing. Are your stitches not dissolvable? Then we will schedule a checkup appointment to remove them after about 10 days. During this checkup, we also review the healing process and give you any additional advice on lifestyle, diet or supplements that will aid your recovery.
Frequently asked questions
How long does it take to pull a wisdom tooth?
Once the anaesthetic has taken effect, a wisdom tooth is usually removed within five minutes. In case of a more complex location, it may take a bit longer.
When will I be able to eat again?
Once the anaesthetic wears off, which is usually after 1-2 hours, you may eat again. We advise you to wait a little longer before consuming hot drinks and foods. They can lead to sensitivity.
What can I eat after surgery?
In theory, you can eat anything. However, we do recommend eating only soft foods on the first day after surgery. We also recommend not smoking or drinking alcohol, as these slow down recovery.
