Oral health is about more than just fresh breath and white teeth. Your teeth reveal how you are doing, even on a deeper level. When looking closely at the mouth, one can often spot early signs of an imbalance in the body. Gum disease does not always happen overnight. And cavities often say more than just something about how you brush your teeth.

Prevention while acknowledging the entire body
Proper oral hygiene prevents common dental problems. Timely detection of subtle changes in your oral health can help you stay ahead of other health problems. This is why we value preventive oral care that is based on the understanding that the mouth and body are connected.
When should you see a dental hygienist?
We will help you with prevention, but certainly also in case of symptoms such as:
- Bleeding or swollen gums
- Bad breath or bad taste in the mouth
- Loose teeth or receding gums
- Sensitive teeth or pain when brushing
- Acid erosion, discolouration or excessive tartar
- Regular cavities despite proper brushing
What can we do for you?
At your biannual check-up, you will usually have an appointment with a dental hygienist first. They will:
- remove plaque and tartar.
- polish your teeth for a fresh and clean feeling.
- provide practical advice on daily oral care.
- look at external factors that may affect your teeth, such as diet and oral habits.
Prior to the treatment
Before you undergo treatment, a PPS measurement is carried out. This is done as follows: our dental hygienist gives your gums a score between 1 and 3. Based on this score, we will determine your treatment plan.

| 1 | Healthy gums | Pockets up to 3 mm deep, Possibly with some bleeding during measurement | Maintain or improve with instructions and follow-up treatments. |
| 2 | Gingivitis (gum inflammation) | Pockets up to 5 mm deep, Gum inflammation, Possibly with starting bone resorption | Additional treatments are crucial to make pockets less deep. Occasionally, an additional examination with a periodontal status needs to be done immediately, after which we can start your treatment plan. |
| 3 | Periodontitis (gum inflammation that is spreading towards the jawbone) | Pockets of 6 mm or more, Bone resorption around one or more teeth | With this score, a more extensive examination is usually necessary so we can start intensive periodontal treatment. |
Dental hygienist versus prevention assistant
Both our dental hygienists and prevention assistants focus on preventive care but their treatments differ. Below, we have listed the differences:

| Sets up treatment plans and performs in-depth measurements. | Gives brushing instructions. |
| May also clean under the gums. | May only clean superficially. |
| Works independently and is college-educated. | Always works under the supervision of a dentist. |
One dentist throughout your treatment plan
Throughout your treatment, you will have the same dentist who is knowledgeable not only about your health, but also about who you are as a person and what your wishes are. If you need specialist care, you will be transferred to a colleague within our practice. Thanks to this direct contact between colleagues and a shared vision, we can guide you in the best possible way.
After the check-up, we will immediately schedule a follow-up appointment for your next cleaning and check-up. This way, we maintain continuity of care and work to prevent problems rather than just treating when symptoms arise.
Costs
Below, we have listed an overview of the costs for dental hygienist and prevention assistant treatments. Please note that these costs may vary per person. Do you need additional treatment? Then the costs may be higher. The rates for 2025 have been set by the Nederlandse Zorgautoriteit (Dutch Healthcare Authority).
